Obama calls for 2-year freeze on federal pay

Obama says he wants two-year pay freeze for federal employees; Congress must approve plan

Tom Raum, Associated Press, On Monday November 29, 2010, 9:47 pm EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Monday proposed a two-year freeze of the salaries of some 2 million federal workers, trying to seize the deficit-cutting initiative from Republicans with a sudden, dramatic stroke. Though signaling White House concern over record deficits, the freeze would make only a tiny dent in annual deficits or the nation’s $14 trillion debt.

“Small businesses and families are tightening their belts,” Obama said in brief remarks at the White House. “The government should, too.” The administration said the plan was designed to save more than $5 billion over the first two years.

The proposal, which must be approved by Congress, would not apply to the military, but it would affect all others on the Executive Branch payroll. It would not affect members of Congress or their staffs, defense contractors, postal workers or federal court judges and workers.

WHOA. Stop right there.

This pay freeze ‘would not apply to the military, members of Congress or their staffs, defense contractors, postal workers or federal court judges and workers’.

I’m sorry – aren’t they FEDERAL WORKERS? So they don’t need to ‘tighten their belts’ like everyone else?!?!

TSA ‘news flash’; people don’t like X-Rays, body groping

In Sheer Madness on 11/24/2010 at 10:41 AM

In case you haven’t been paying attention, tens of thousands of Americans around the country

are protesting against the aggressive and intrusive TSA screenings at airports. Not surprisingly, people do not like the idea of being subjected to an actual X-RAY MACHINE – being exposed to harmful (yes, harmful,. Click here to read more) X-Rays – nor do people like the thought of being pat down, searched, groped, fondled, and handled by TSA hourly wage workers.

[I added that ‘hourly wage worker’ part to highlight the fact that these are NOT trained law officers, nor are they any type of TRAINED security force specializing in dealing with actual terrorist threats. TSA screeners are regular people. No disrespect to them, but they could just as well have worked at Wendy’s or delivered pizzas for $12 an hour. instead, they are posted up at airports, running highly radiative X-Ray machines and touching millions of people’s private parts.]

If that doesn’t disturb a person, I’m not sure what does?

World’s Pilots Reject Naked Body Scanners Over Radiation Danger, Privacy Breach

The largest independent union of airline pilots in the world is urging its members to boycott body imaging machines currently being rolled out in airports all over the globe, citing dangers of excessive exposure to harmful levels of radiation during the screening process.

The president of the Allied Pilots Association, which represents 11,500 pilots, many of whom work for American Airlines, has urged members of the union to revolt against the devices.

READ THE REST HERE…

But TSA Chief Joe Pistole feels that this is completely okay. In fact – he feels its necessary even though thousands of airline travelers are riled up over the intrusive security screening measures. Apparently, no one likes being subjected to X-Ray radiation or having complete strangers grope, fondle, and probe their bodies. In the midst of this outcry, Pistole defends TSA’s practices, calling airline travel a ‘privilege’, and that those who refuse screening give up the right to fly on an airplane.

TSA Chief Faces Outrage as He Defends Screening Procedures

A ‘privilege’ to fly? Really?

well Mr Pistole, I would argue that people had been getting around just fine for the past 50,000 or so years without flying the friendly skies. I would argue that the multi-BILLION dollar airline industry is at the complete MERCY of people who are willing to fly, not the other way around. And I would argue that If a nationwide protest went into effect the industry would be crippled overnight…..

No, Mr Pistole – REAL Americans – the ones that understand the value of Constitutional Rights to personal privacy, the Right to not be treated like a terrorist, the Right to not be searched without due/just cause – these Americans  will stand up to and fight for those Rights, even in the midst of a so-called terrorist threat. That is what separates America from other countries.

American citizens want terrorists to be stopped. We want terrorism around the world to cease. And we’re willing to send troops abroad to stop terrorist threats. But we DEFINITELY DO NOT want to be treated like a terrorist in our own home! >: o(

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

John Boehner: ‘Raise retirement age to pay for wars’; Does not want Wall Street reform!

In Executive Diary, FAIL on 11/18/2010 at 10:35 AM

GOOD JOB, ‘ANGRY VOTERS’! You made your voices heard and overwhelmingly voted Dems out of office in favor of Repubs who are gonna ‘turn things around’, right?

Well….not quite.

New Speaker of the House John Boehner (pronounced Bay-ner, not Boner) has already admitted to dedicating the next 2 years to fighting Pres. Obama – not fixing the economy. And if that weren’t enough to make Americans happy to have voted Republicans back into some power, Boehner announces that in order to keep the two illegal occupations going in Iraq and Afghanistan, our govt would have to raise the age of retirement to 70 years – thereby staving off American elders from collecting Soc Sec. money so we can fund war operations.

GOLD, SILVER skyrockets amid Fed dollar devaluation

In Money Matters on 11/09/2010 at 1:41 PM

Quantitative Easing – a nice way of saying ‘turn the dollar’s value into dirt’. The Feds, under Benjamin Bernanke, are turning on the printing presses and issuing $600 Bil new treasury bills. The rest of the world is decrying this act, since the dollar’s value is falling worldwide. Pres Obama is backing this decision. And the price of commodities – namely GOLD and SILVER – have skyrocketed in value per ounce with no end in sight!

Gold on track for fourth straight record

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gold futures rallied more than 1% Tuesday, poised to settle at what would be a fourth consecutive record, as the dollar fell and as lingering concerns about European debt attracted more investors to precious metals.

Gold for December delivery /quotes/comstock/21e!f:gc\z10 (GCZ10 1,415, +12.20, +0.87%)  added $17, or 1.2%, to $1,419.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver futures notched a 30-year high and as the copper contract topped $4 a pound, the loftiest price for the industrial metal in more than two years.

To put this in perspective, the price of gold per ounce just 3 years ago (2007) hovered around $650-$725. Precious metals experts heralded the great Gold Bull market thta has been going on for the better part of a decade now. Unfortunately this news went untouched by financial media outlets.

Even more impressive is SILVER; which has gone from $15oz to nearly $30 in the same time frame! Both precious metals have doubled or more in just the past 3 years alone.

And yet, the majority of American citizens are unaware of the current economic reality.
